Q & A

How should I backup my computer? What method is best?

There is no one right way, or one best method, to backup your computer.  The important thing is to ensure that you DO have some kind of backup process in place, and one that works for you.  It would be terrible to have a fatal hard drive crash and to have you lose all of your data (files, photos, music, etc).  For Apple users, I recommend using Time Machine backup to either an external hard drive (local), or to use a Cloud backup solution like Backblaze.  For Windows users you will also want to use an external hard drive for local backup, or a solid cloud based solution like CrashPlan Pro, or Carbonite.  If you do not have a backup plan in place, and want to do so quickly, please contact me right away for help.

What do I do if I think my computer has a virus?

First of all, don’t panic. Simply disconnect your computer from the network and begin to run virus and malware scans on your hard drive. If no threats are detected, and you still suspect a virus is on your computer, then please contact Chuck directly. Many viruses and malicious exploits can be removed from the computer, while other more severe attacks can result in necessary “clean installs” of your system and programs.  Chuck can assist you in firming up the overall security on all of your devices and computers.

Should I run and install updates on my computer?

In short, yes you should. Operating System and Software updates are designed to provide your devices with critical security patches, software enhancements, and new features. It is wise to install updates to your devices regularly. Most updates have patch notes on them so you can read what is contained in the update. If you ever need help with applying updates to your tech devices please contact Chuck King's Conscious Computing and I can help you!
